MEQUON, Wisconsin -- Alverno College dropped both sides of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader to host Concordia University Wisconsin Monday evening by scores of 6-2 and 1-0.
The Inferno (8-14, 1-5 NACC) got off to a quick start on the day as they scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning of game one.
Ashlie Rossi singled up the middle to score Samantha Chapnick, who led off the contest with a base hit. Alexis Botsford then crossed home plate on the following play as Megan Hernandez collected an RBI.
That was all the scoring the visitors would muster on the day, however, as Alverno stranded 10 base runners in the opener. The Falcons (10-8, 2-0) scored their six runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to pull ahead for the win.
Botsford, Rossi and Carina Jimenez tallied two hits apiece for six of the team's eight in the game.
Olivia Schneider (4-9) was tabbed with the loss despite eight strikeouts and no walks. The sophomore scattered eight hits over six innings and just four of the six runs were earned.
The nightcap was a pitchers' duel as the teams combined for just six hits in the 1-0 game.
Rossi (4-5) went the distance in the loss as she had five Ks and walked two in the four-hitter.
The Falcons' lone run came in the second inning after a one-out walk came around to score on a well-placed double to right-center field.
Next up for Alverno is a NACC doubleheader at Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
