DECATUR, Georgia -- After Alverno College dropped an extra-inning heartbreaker, 2-1, in game one, the Inferno blasted 15 hits for a 6-2 victory in the nightcap at Agnes Scott College Tuesday evening.
The Inferno nearly scored a go-ahead run in the seventh, but Korn was called out on a close play at home plate as the rookie outfield attempted to score from second base on a Samantha Chapnick single to right field.
Alverno had a pair of runners on base in the eighth inning with no outs, but the visitors were unable to send either baserunner home in the extra frame.
Agnes Scott took advantage of their baserunner at third in the bottom half of the inning, as Alex Garcia scored the walk-off run on a passed ball and close play at home.
Olivia Schneider (3-5) was tagged with the loss despite the fact she surrendered just five hits and one earned run in the 7.1 innings. The sophomore lefty tallied seven strikeouts and walked just two.
In the nightcap, the Inferno recorded hits in every inning and finally reached the scoring column in the top of the fifth as an Ashlie Rossi singled scored Botsford from second base. Andie Vandertie scored Kristin Holub with a base hit in the next at bat while Bailey Jedrzejewski scored Rossi on the Inferno's third consecutive hit of the inning.
Holub drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and Rossi collected her second RBI of the game in the following at bat for the 5-1 lead.
After the Scotties (4-14) scored once in the bottom of the sixth, Chapnick scored Dani Schwanke on a base knock in the seventh for the final run of the contest.
Rossi (4-1) earned the complete-game victory in the circle as she scattered six hits and had three Ks and walked one.
Alverno (7-7) closes out its six-game Georgia road trip Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader at Covenant College.
