MILWAUKEE -- The schedule for the 2012 Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic has been released and the Alverno College softball team has six new opponents on the docket of the eight games in southwestern Florida.
The Inferno (12-28 in 2011) opens the 2012 slate with a pair of games in Cape Coral, Fla., on Saturday, March 3, versus Bridgewater State University (18-23) and Eastern Nazarene College (12-22). The pair will be played at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.
The final six games of the spring trip will be played at the Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
On Sunday, March 4, Alverno will take on Newbury College (10-24) and Penn State Behrend (15-17), followed by an off-day on Monday.
Tuesday, the Inferno will play a pair of opponents it has faced in prior seasons, Finlandia University (25-11) and Rochester Institute of Technology (24-12). The Inferno faced RIT to open the 2010 season, when Alverno head coach Kristin Ortman picked up her first collegiate coaching victory, 5-3, over the Tigers. Alverno and Finlandia haven't faced off since the 2005 season, splitting a four-game series.
The final day of the trip, Wednesday, March 7, opponents are Clark University (Mass.) (16-17) and Wilmington College of Ohio (13-21).
