Kosobucki to Lead Inferno Softball Program

MILWAUKEE -- Kristin Kosobucki, assistant coach for the Alverno College softball team, has been named the program’s new head coach.

Central’s Wilmore to Attend Alverno College

Stephanie WilmoreMILWAUKEE -- Stephanie Wilmore of Elkhart Central High School (Ind.) has informed Alverno College of her intentions to attend the school in the fall and play softball for the Inferno.

Wilmore is a four-year starter on varsity for the Blue Blazers playing both the catcher and shortstop positions. The senior right-hander is hitting .340 with nine doubles and a homerun this season.

Alverno Head Softball Coach Burtman Resigns

MILWAUKEE -- Heather Burtman has announced her resignation as Head Softball Coach at Alverno College after seven seasons leading the program.

“Heather has been an invaluable member of our athletics staff for 7 years and will certainly be missed on a day to day basis,” said Alverno Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth.

Schmid named Second Team All-NAC

Rebecca SchmidMILWAUKEE (05/05/2009) -- The Northern Athletics Conference has announced its 2009 All-NAC Softball Awards and Alverno College’s Rebecca Schmid was named to the Second Team All-NAC.

Schmid (Tigerton, Wis.), a senior catcher, was tops in the conference in multiple categories. Offensively she was ninth in stolen bases per game (0.30) and 10th in runs scored per game (0.93). Defensively she led the league in runners picked off (4), was fifth in caught stealing by (7), and eighth in chances (214).

“It’s great that Bec finally received recognition for the work she does behind the plate. She's a strong catcher and it’s nice for her to be honored in her senior season,” commented Alverno Head Coach Heather Burtman.

Jessica Goetz Named Northern Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Week

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College’s Jessica Goetz (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale Martin Luther)  was named Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for softball pitchers from games played Monday, April 27, through Sunday, May 3.

Her week was highlighted by striking out 17 of 25 MSOE batters in game one of last Tuesday’s doubleheader, which the Inferno won 3-1. The 17-strikeout performance broke her own single-game school record (formerly 15 strikeouts) and tied the NAC record for single-game strikeouts.
