Inferno to Face Tough Competition for Homecoming Weekend Contests

MILWAUKEE -- As the first chills of fall enter the air and the leaves on the trees begin to transform for one last blaze of color, Alverno College’s volleyball and soccer teams fire up for a big weekend of Northern Athletics Conference contests at home to cap off the 2008 Homecoming festivities on Oct. 3-4.

Alverno Soccer Falls to Edgewood 9-0

MADISON, Wis. -- The Inferno soccer team was again held scoreless, losing 9-0 to an extremely fast and powerful Edgewood team on Saturday, Oct. 18.  With the loss, Alverno’s record drops to 0-10 in the NAC and Edgewood improves to 8-1 in the NAC.

LaFond Named Honorable Mention All-Northern Athletics Conference

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College sophomore forward Ellie LaFond was named Honorable Mention All-Northern Athletics Conference for the 2008 women’s soccer season as the awards were announced Friday by the conference office.

Inferno Shut Out by Aurora

AURORA, Ill. -- Short-handed to start the game, the Alverno soccer team couldn’t find its step on a rainy Wednesday, Oct. 15, as they fell 9-0 to the Aurora Spartans, who move to first place in the NAC after their home-game win.  Alverno falls to 0-9 in conference play.

Alverno Soccer’s Offense Folds in Loss to Lakeland

MILWAUKEE -- The weather may have been warm for Alverno College’s Northern Athletics Conference face-off with Lakeland College, but a cold offense doomed the Inferno as Lakeland College recorded a 7-0 shutout victory on Alverno’s home field on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Milwaukee, Wis.

Sr. ● P ● Softball
Goetz had a 2.90 ERA on the week, with 40 Ks in 41.0 innings pitched. To open the week she fanned 11 batters in a 3-1 upset win over Lakeland on Wednesday (the one run was unearned). Her third K of the game was her 200th this season. She also pitched all 15.0 innings in the 6-4 marathon loss to Edgewood on Saturday, striking out 15 Eagles--only walking one--and only two of the six runs were earned. Additionally she hit .333 on the week with six RBIs.
