Armstrong named assistant soccer coach at Alverno

Bill ArmstrongMILWAUKEE -- Former Brookfield East High School girls soccer coach Bill Armstrong has been named assistant women’s soccer coach at Alverno College.

“I really cannot fathom how excited I am to get started,” Armstrong said. “I enjoy learning and expect to learn a lot from [head coach] Brittany [Oliveira]. At the same time I hope that nearly 30 years of coaching has taught me some things that I can bring to the party.”

Armstrong compiled a .720 winning percentage the last 19 seasons at Brookfield East, including an 80-10-12 record the past five. His teams won numerous conference and regional championships, and most recently made the WIAA state semifinals in 2008.

Oliveira Tabbed New Alverno Head Women’s Soccer Coach

Brittany OliveiraMILWAUKEE -- Brittany Oliveira, a former volunteer assistant for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women’s soccer team and a four-year player at Stanford University, is Alverno College’s new head women’s soccer coach.

“I am extremely excited to be offered the position and to be named head coach,” Oliveira said. “I've been involved with soccer in the Milwaukee area for just over a year now and the chance to take on a bigger role in this community where there is great passion for the sport was a big draw for me.”

Oliveira has spent the past year as an assistant with a nationally-ranked UWM team that went 18-3-2 overall and finished 7-1-0 in the Horizon League, winning the 2008 conference crown to earn a berth to the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Alverno Soccer Gets Back on Winning Track

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's soccer team shut out Mount Mary College, 50, today en route to a non-conference road victory.

Goetz had a 2.90 ERA on the week, with 40 Ks in 41.0 innings pitched. To open the week she fanned 11 batters in a 3-1 upset win over Lakeland on Wednesday (the one run was unearned). Her third K of the game was her 200th this season. She also pitched all 15.0 innings in the 6-4 marathon loss to Edgewood on Saturday, striking out 15 Eagles--only walking one--and only two of the six runs were earned. Additionally she hit .333 on the week with six RBIs.
