MoniriaraniMILWAUKEE -- Alverno wrapped up the 2011 season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Wisconsin Lutheran this afternoon at Alverno Field on the Inferno's "Senior Day."

The home team honored seniors Kelly Sunstrom (Muskego, Wis./Martin Luther) and Kristen Hemmingsen (Brookfield, Wis./East) during a ceremony at halftime.

Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, Alverno's Bryanna Gayle (Milwaukee/Riverside) was fouled in the box by the Warriors' goalkeeper, and the Inferno were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore midfielder Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) took the Inferno's PK and converted to tie the game, 1-1.

After over 20 minutes of scoreless game-play, the Warriors (3-15, 3-9 Northern Athletics Conference) Maggie Smith put the visitors up for good with a goal from the right side.

Alverno would have multiple shots on the opponents, but could not connect for a game-tying score.

In the 81st minute, an Inferno player was called for a hand foul in the box, and this time the Warriors connected on the penalty kick for the 3-1 lead.

The Inferno conclude the season with a 6-14 overall record (2-10 NAC) and set a single-season school record with a 2.99 goals against average.
