MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno soccer team lost its homecoming game to the MSOE Raiders this afternoon at Alverno Field, 4-1.
The game was also the first "Red Rivalry" game, in which the winner of the teams' annual series holds the travelling trophy, which went to the Raiders. Additionally, the Inferno wore pink uniforms in support of breast cancer awareness.
The Raiders (9-4, 6-1 Northern Athletics Conference) wasted no time getting on the board, as they scored the first goal in just the second minute of the game, and added two more before half for the 3-0 halftime lead.
The Inferno (5-10, 1-6) cut the lead to 3-1, as Brittany Carpenter (Winneconne, Wis./Neenah) set up Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) for a score off an indirect kick after a MSOE foul. It was Moniriarani's sixth goal of the season.
Alverno had a few more scoring chances, but failed to get another goal, as MSOE out the game out of reach with a fourth and final goal in the 82nd minute.
The Inferno have a pair of road contests next week at Aurora on Wednesday and at Edgewood on Saturday.
