MILWAUKEE -- The Northern Athletics Conference announced Monday afternoon that Alverno College senior forward Ellie LaFond (Waukesha, Wis./West) has been named the conference's women's soccer student-athlete of the week for games played Oct. 5-11. This is the second weekly laurel that LaFond has received in her career.
LaFond's week was highlighted by a pair of hat tricks as she totaled 17 points on seven goals and three assists. The Inferno went 2-1 in three games last week.
In Tuesday's conference victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College she recorded a natural hat trick, which included goals in the first 5 minutes of each half. She also assisted on a goal in the 6-0 win.
On Thursday at Mount Mary College, LaFond recorded her second hat trick of the week plus one, as she tallied four goals and two assists in the 9-0 non-conference victory. Her first goal against Mount Mary came just 1:42 into the game.
LaFond's 10 points in the contest tie a school record for most in a game, which she set on Oct. 23, 2008, against Mount Mary. She also tied the school record for assists in a game which has been accomplished two additional times in Inferno history.
LaFond currently leads the NAC in goals per game (1.25) and points per game (2.92), and is seventh in assists per game (0.42). She is also amongst leaders in shots per game (4.67) and game winning goals (3).
LaFond and the Inferno (6-8, 2-5 NAC) are next in action this Wednesday, Oct. 14, as they host Rockford College at 4 p.m. Alverno has tied the school record for victories in a season and looks to break the record against the winless Regents (0-7, 0-5).
