Alverno kickers net all-conference honors

RobinsonMILWAUKEE -- The Northern Athletics Conference released the awards for the 2011 women's soccer season today and Alverno College had three players honored, led by Second Team All-NAC selection Samantha Robinson.

In addition to Robinson (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper), sophomore Nava Moniriarani (Oak Creek, Wis.) received honorable mention for the second-straight season and Rachel Krueger (Port Washington, Wis.) was Alverno's selection to the NAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

"Sam had another great season for us and is very deserving of conference recognition," Alverno head coach Brittany Nikolic said. "We can rely on her to come up with big saves when the opportunities present themselves and other teams are taking notice. She is becoming a strong team leader and the foundation for our defense."

Warriors spoil Inferno's Senior Day

MoniriaraniMILWAUKEE -- Alverno wrapped up the 2011 season with a 3-1 loss to visiting Wisconsin Lutheran this afternoon at Alverno Field on the Inferno's "Senior Day."

The home team honored seniors Kelly Sunstrom (Muskego, Wis./Martin Luther) and Kristen Hemmingsen (Brookfield, Wis./East) during a ceremony at halftime.

Inferno unable to tame Sabres

RobinsonFOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Alverno was unable to stop the Marian attack as the host Sabres defeated the Inferno 3-0 today at Smith Field.

The Inferno (6-13, 2-9 Northern Athletics Conference) trailed only 1-0 at halftime, due in part to goalkeeper Samantha Robinson's (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) nine saves in the half on 24 shots by the Sabres (11-6, 9-2).

Marian's first-half goal came in the 40th minute off a corner kick to end the game's scoreless tie.

The junior first baseman had a team-leading .500 batting average in four games last week. Villalobos recorded multiple hits in three of the games for seven total hits in 14 at bats and did not strike out once in 15 plate appearances. She added a pair of RBIs and stolen base and was defensively perfect in 14 chances.
