The weather has played havoc on Alverno's schedule since returning from a 4-6 trip at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic March 11. The forecast looks good for the Inferno to finally get some games played as the team hosts four doubleheaders this week at Alverno Field.
Tuesday's opponent, Maranatha, has opened the season 2-4. The Sabercats last played on March 17 where they dropped a pair of games to Finlandia University and Martin Luther College 13-10 and 7-6.
Alverno leads the all-time series 28-5 with 10 consecutive wins over MBU.
Wednesday's opponent, Carroll, has opened the season 7-9, ending its spring trip with a 6-5 win over the College of Mount St. Joseph and a 2-1 loss to Trine University on March 17. Sunday's series will be the Pioneers' first action since Florida.
The Inferno earned a split with Carroll in 2015, the teams' last meeting, but is just 2-8 in the all-time series.
The weekend opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play as Alverno hosts the defending regular season champ, Aurora, Saturday and the tournament champ, Benedictine, Sunday.
The Spartans have opened the season at 7-5 and recently split a doubleheader at Saint Mary's College of Indiana last Tuesday.
Aurora leads 19-2 in the all-times series including four straight victories over the Inferno.
The Eagles just finished their spring trip last week with a 5-5 record. Benedictine will host a nonconference series Thursday and then Concordia University Chicago Saturday before heading to Milwaukee Sunday.
Last season Alverno earned the program's first-ever win against the Eagles as the teams split the season series. Benedictine leads 21-1 all-time.
Live broadcasts will be available for all of this week's games with links available on athletics.alverno.edu.
Alverno (11-6, 7-2 NACC) opens the spring portion of its season with a pair of duals up in Green Bay Sunday. The Inferno ended the fall season with six straight wins.
Host St. Norbert will be the morning opponent for Alverno, while Saint Mary's will be the afternoon foe.
The Green Knights (15-8) already have seven matches under their belts this spring and recently topped Edgewood College, 9-0, last Sunday.
The Cardinals (7-3) have won their last two contests including a 6-3 win at Macalester College Saturday.
This weekend's meetings against St. Norbert and Saint Mary's will be the first ever versus Alverno.
