Alverno (12-13, 12-8 NACC) ended the regular season with a pair of victories over Benedictine and Marian University to secure its spot in the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball Tournament as the No. 6 seed.

This marks the first time since 2014 and fourth time overall the Inferno has reached the NACC playoffs. The 2014 team won a pair of overtime games to reach the tournament championship, but fell to the top seed Wisconsin Lutheran College, 60-57, in the final.

Less than a week from the Inferno's 70-65 win at Benedictine, the squad returns to Lisle, Illinois to face the third-seeded Eagles (19-6, 15-5). Benedictine dropped its regular-season finale to Lakeland University, 62-54, for the team's second straight loss.

Alverno has won two of the last three against the Eagles, but trails the all-time series 4-19, including 0-1 in the postseason. The last postseason meeting between the teams was in the first round of the 2013 NACC Tournament where host Benedictine topped the Inferno, 53-42.

The winner of the first round matchup will advance to play No. 2 Lakeland on Thursday night up in Plymouth, Wisconsin. The Muskies (18-7, 16-4) have won their last five games and eight out of their last 10.

The Inferno's lone playoff contests against Lakeland was in the first round of the 2010 NACC Tournament which the Muskies prevailed in overtime, 67-61.

The other side of the bracket is led by NACC regular-season champion No. 1 Concordia University Wisconsin (21-4, 18-2) who will host the winner of No. 5 Concordia University Chicago (15-10, 14-6) at No. 4 Wisconsin Lutheran (15-9, 15-5).
