Alverno is coming off its most notable offensive performance of the season in an 82-51 victory over Edgewood College, which the team set season highs in points scored, field goals made, field goal percentage, assists and free throw percentage.
The Inferno (3-7, 3-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) looks to carry the offensive momentum into three games this week.
A Tuesday trip to Aurora starts out the week, followed by a home contest against Benedictine Thursday and a jaunt up to Mequon to face Concordia Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (2-9, 1-5 NACC) were on the losing end of an 85-38 decision to Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday after defeating Rockford University, 70-64, in their prior game. Aurora has won the last three meetings versus Alverno and leads the all-time series 11-4.
The Eagles (9-1, 5-0) are off to a hot start and have won their last six including a five-point win over CUW Saturday. Benedictine leads the league in points per game at 75.0 and rebounding margin with a 15.3 advantage on the glass. The Inferno topped the Eagles in last season's regular-season finale, 53-49, but still trails 18-3 in the series.
The Falcons' (7-2, 5-1) loss to Benedictine snapped a five-game win streak and the only other blemish on their record came at the hands of Division II Winona State University the second week of the season. CUW has the top defense in the conference with an average of 51.9 points allowed per game. Winners of the last four meetings with Alverno, the Falcons lead 20-4 all-time.
