Inferno Cross Country
The Inferno runners are back in action after two weeks off. Alverno looks to improve on its Sept. 10 finish at the Ken Weidt Classic as the team travels to the Olde English Classic at Beloit Saturday.
It will be the Inferno's first trip to the meet since the 2014 season when Alverno placed fifth of eight teams.
The Inferno golfers look to close out regular season play with a pair of duals this week, at Lakeland Friday, and a home meet versus Mount Mary Saturday.
The Muskies have won three multi-team events they have competed with Alverno this season. The Blue Angels edged out the Inferno by 16 strokes as the season-opening triangular.
Alverno is off to the best start in program history through six games with a 5-1 record (1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference). The Inferno has won three straight games including a 6-0 win over Lakeland University in the NACC opener.
The team heads crosstown to Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday for its lone game of the week. The Warriors are off to a 2-5 start (0-1 NACC) this season.
WLC leads the all-time series 11-2, including last season's 2-0 victory at Alverno Field.
Alverno has won two straight and three of its last four for a 4-5 record (3-2 NACC) on the season. The Inferno will step away from league play this week for a pair of nonconference duals up at UW-Stout.
Alverno will take on Bethany Lutheran (0-2) at 1 p.m. before taking on the host Blue Devils (2-3) at 4 p.m. Stout and the Vikings will open play at 10 a.m.
Saturday will be the first meeting with Bethany Lutheran while the Inferno trails UW-Stout 0-3 all-time.
Alverno (2-13, 1-1- NACC) opened the conference season with a 1-1 split opening week and returns to NACC play Wednesday as the team hosts Aurora (8-5, 1-0 NACC).
The Inferno then heads crosstown Friday to Mount Mary (2-3) for a non-league match before hosting Grinnell (4-7) and Beloit (5-6) Saturday for more nonconference action.
Alverno's records in the all-time series are 0-12 versus Aurora, 23-6 against Mount Mary, 0-1 versus Grinnell and 5-7 against Beloit.
