Inferno Cross Country
The Inferno runners look to build on their season-opening race last week with a trip up to Ripon for the Red Hawk Invite. Last season Alverno placed third of four teams at the same event and will look to top last year's finish.
Alverno dropped a dual to Mount Mary last Saturday to fall behind in the season series 2-1. The team travels to Lakeland this Saturday for a triangular meet versus the Muskies and Edgewood. The Inferno then hosts a quadrangular meet on Sunday versus Carthage, Concordia Wisconsin and Lakeland to close out the home portion of its 2015 schedule.
The Inferno (1-3) lost a road game at Grace Bible College Saturday and returns home for another nonconference game against Maranatha (2-1-1) Thursday before beginning Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play Saturday at Lakeland (1-4).
Last year, the Inferno and Sabercats played to a 3-3 tie in Watertown, while Alverno topped the Muskies 2-1 up in Plymouth. The draw put the all-time series 9-2-2 in favor of Maranatha, while Lakeland leads 11-2.
Thursday's home contest will be broadcast live on athletics.alverno.edu.
Alverno improved to 4-1 and 3-0 in NACC play with a sweep of Concordia Chicago and Dominican Saturday, and can match last season's best start in school history with a win in its next dual Saturday.
The Inferno will host Aurora (2-3, 2-2 NACC) in a rematch of last season's NACC Tournament first round Saturday, before defending NACC champion Edgewood (4-4, 3-0) visits Sunday. Alverno trails both all-time series, 1-6 versus the Spartans and 0-6 versus the Eagles.
The Inferno (2-6) dropped four matches at North Park's tournament last weekend and will look to snap the skid as it opens NACC play versus Benedictine Tuesday in Reiman Gymnasium.
The Eagles (4-4) are also on a four-match slide, while Thursday's opponent, Rockford (4-4) has yet to win or lose two in a row.
After the pair of league matches Alverno travels crosstown to Mount Mary for a nonconference tri against the host Blue Angels (0-3) and familiar foe Beloit (2-5). The rubber match against the Bucs will be the third and final meeting this season.
The Inferno trails the all-time series against Benedictine (11-0), Rockford (16-1) and Beloit (4-6), but leads Mount Mary 21-6.
Tuesday's will be broadcast live on athletics.alverno.edu, while Rockford will provide video Thursday, and the Blue Angels will provide live stats Saturday.
