Inferno Cross Country
First-year head coach Megan Krueger leads the cross country team in its first meet of the 2015 season Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin's Ken Weidt Classic.
The Inferno ran on the course at last year's Falcon Invite when the team finished 13th of 16 schools. The CUW campus course is also the site of the 2015 NACC Championships at the end of October, so the Alverno runners will use this week's race as a preview for the season finale.
After a busy opening weekend -- three meets in three days -- the Alverno golfers slow down the pace with a single dual on Saturday at Greenfield Park Golf Course.
The Inferno hosts Mount Mary for the third of four meetings this fall. The Blue Angels won Friday's opening dual meet, but Alverno evened the season series by capturing a three-stroke victory on Sunday.
Alverno (0-2) finally hosts its home opener Wednesday, after starting the season with a pair of neutral-site games at the Mount Mary Invitational last weekend, and then hits the road again Saturday.
The Blue Angels (0-2) visit Alverno Field after hosting their kick-off tournament. Both Mount and the Inferno loss their games in the tourney to Crown and Eureka. Alverno leads the all-time series 23-5-1, which includes victories in the last 18 meetings between the two Milwaukee schools.
Alverno then heads to Michigan for a match up against Grace (0-1-1) for the teams' first meeting against each other. It will be the Tigers' fourth straight home game to open the season.
Wednesday's home opener will be broadcast live on athletics.alverno.edu.
Alverno opened the season going 2-1, including 1-0 in NACC play, last weekend, and travels across the state boarder for a pair of league duals Saturday.
Concordia Chicago (1-1, 1-1 NACC) hosts the Inferno in the morning, followed by Dominican (1-2, 1-1) in the afternoon.
Alverno leads the Cougars 4-2 in the all-times series, but has yet to defeat the Stars in six previous duals.
Alverno opened the season 2-2, and finished the Buc Blast Tournament with a 3-0 sweep of Rockford Saturday.
The Inferno begins Friday's tournament against the host Vikings (3-3) before taking on Manchester (2-3). North Central (7-0) and Nebraska Wesleyan (0-4) are slated as Saturday's opponents.
North Park leads Alverno 8-0 all-time, while North Central and Nebraska Wesleyan both lead 1-0. It will be the Inferno's first meeting with Manchester, while the team hasn't face North Central since 2007 and Nebraska Wesleyan since 2002.
