Talavera paces Inferno at NAC Championship, Morrissey named to All-Sportsmanship Team

2011 ChampionshipSOMERS, Wis. -- Freshman Marci Talavera (Franklin, Wis.) paced Alverno with a time of 27:07 at the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Cross Country Championship this morning at Dannehl National Cross Country Course on the UW-Parkside Campus.

Talavera set a new personal best with the time, which was good for 46th place of over 100 runners in the 6K event.

Talavera named NAC Student-Athlete of the Week

TalaveraMILWAUKEE -- Alverno's Marci Talavera (Franklin, Wis.) has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for events of October 17-23, the conference announced Monday evening.

Talavera set a personal best time of 27:40 in the 6K, which is also the sixth fastest time in school history and third fastest for an Inferno freshman, at the UW-Oshkosh Open on Friday.

Inferno competes at UW-Oshkosh Open

WINNECONNE, Wis. -- The Alverno cross country team finished sixth of six complete teams at the UW-Oshkosh Open Friday afternoon at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

The University of Wisconsin won the event with a team score of 16 points, snagging six of the top-10 individual times. The Badgers' Dani Fischer had the top individual time with 21:28 in the field of over 50 runners.

The junior first baseman had a team-leading .500 batting average in four games last week. Villalobos recorded multiple hits in three of the games for seven total hits in 14 at bats and did not strike out once in 15 plate appearances. She added a pair of RBIs and stolen base and was defensively perfect in 14 chances.
