Inferno Drop Third Straight

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team lost its third straight game tonight as they fell to visiting MSOE 58-48 at Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (10-14, 6-12 Northern Athletics Conference) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, led by Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield), who scored the team’s first 12 points of the game. MSOE would answer with a 7-1 run to take a brief lead at 7-5 with just under 14 minutes to play.

Alverno's Postseason Hopes Lost in Defeat at Maranatha

WATERTOWN, Wis. (02/16/2009) -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team dropped a Northern Athletics Conference road game to host Maranatha Baptist 64-54 in Watertown. The loss eliminates the Inferno (10-13, 6-11 NAC) from contention on entry into the NAC Tournament.

The Inferno led 9-4 just over 4 minutes into the game, but Maranatha would use a 9-0 run to take a 13-9 lead and would not trail the remainder of the game.

Alverno Falters on Road

LISLE, Ill. -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team fell to host Benedictine University 64-44 in a Northern Athletics Conference game tonight at the Rice Center in Lisle, Ill.

The Inferno (10-12, 6-10 NAC) tied the game at 14-14 with just under eight minutes to play in the first half, but would be held scoreless the remainder of the period as Benedictine (10-12, 7-9) would use an 18-0 run to take a commanding 32-14 lead into intermission.

Alverno to Sponsor Pink Zone and Honor Seniors with J.J. Jumper in Attendance

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College will be hosting a plethora of events during what could be their final women’s basketball home game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (10-11, 6-9 Northern Athletics Conference) will host MSOE (11-11, 8-8) in a game that will have postseason implications, as the two teams battle for the final spots in the NAC tournament. The Inferno will be sponsoring the WBCA Pink Zone initiative, honoring their three seniors with “Senior Night,” and J.J. Jumper, the official basketball mascot of the NCAA, will make an appearance.

Inferno Defeat Dominican In Overtime Thriller

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team defeated Dominican University 74-70 in an overtime thriller at Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee.

The Inferno (10-11, 6-9 Northern Athletics Conference) trailed 59-53 with 1:15 to go in regulation, but Bre Miller (Racine, Wis./Horlick) hit a shot on a Josyln Binkowski (Greenfield, Wis.) pass with a minute remaining to cut Dominican’s (11-10, 6-9 NAC) lead to four.

Kochanowski set a single-game school record and had a game-winning double-overtime goal as the Inferno went 2-0 on the week. In a 6-0 win over Mt. Mary, Kochanowski scored the first five goals of the game and assisted on the final one for 11 total points, breaking the previous single-game record of 10. On Saturday in a 2-1 double-overtime win at North Central (Minn.) she knocked in the game winner in the 109th minute for the victory.
