LISLE, Ill. -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team fell to host Benedictine University 64-44 in a Northern Athletics Conference game tonight at the Rice Center in Lisle, Ill.

The Inferno (10-12, 6-10 NAC) tied the game at 14-14 with just under eight minutes to play in the first half, but would be held scoreless the remainder of the period as Benedictine (10-12, 7-9) would use an 18-0 run to take a commanding 32-14 lead into intermission.

Alverno shot a dismal 22 percent from the field in the half including 0-of-11 from the three-point arc and went 0-of-5 from the free throw line.

The second half rim would be a bit kinder to the Inferno as they more than doubled their offensive performance, scoring 30 points in the second period. Alverno would shoot 10-of-13 from the free throw line and connect on two three-point baskets in the second half, compared to Benedictine’s 8-of-13 free throw shooting and 0-of-2 from the three-point shooting in the second half.

Unfortunately Benedictine’s 27 offensive rebounds would produce 18 second chance points, nearly the difference in the game.

Junior guard Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) had a team-high 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting for the Inferno, while grabbing seven rebounds and blocking two shots.

Bre Miller (Racine, Wis./Horlick) had a team-high nine rebounds while scoring nine points and assisting on three baskets.

Freshman Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) had seven rebounds, including four offensive boards, and also had three assists and two steals.

Laketa Simpson (Joliet, Ill.) led the host Eagles in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting, while Monkia Krozel (Norridge, Ill.) pulled down a game-high 16 of the team’s 68 rebounds.

The Inferno are now a game out of fourth place in the NAC South Division with two games to play. The top four teams from each division make the NAC Tournament.

The Inferno will travel to Watertown, Wis. to take on Maranatha Baptist on Monday, Feb. 16 at 7pm.
