WATERTOWN, Wis. (02/16/2009) -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team dropped a Northern Athletics Conference road game to host Maranatha Baptist 64-54 in Watertown. The loss eliminates the Inferno (10-13, 6-11 NAC) from contention on entry into the NAC Tournament.

The Inferno led 9-4 just over 4 minutes into the game, but Maranatha would use a 9-0 run to take a 13-9 lead and would not trail the remainder of the game.

Lisa Sorgi (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield) led the Inferno in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, Wis./Bay View) was 7-of-16 from the field for 14 points, while Bre Miller (Racine, Wis./Horlick) chipped in 10.

Sorgi and Miller also each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Inferno.

Rose Peterson (Chandler, Ariz.) had a game-high 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Crusaders (6-15, 1-15), who picked up their first conference win of the season.

The Inferno were outrebounded 53-41 for the seventh straight game, yet won the turnover battle for the fifth straight time committing only 14 compared to Maranatha’s 16.

Maranatha went to the free throw line 22 times in the game, compared to only eight trips for Alverno. Both teams only managed to shoot 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Alverno is next in action this Wednesday, Feb. 18 hosting MSOE at 7pm in Reiman Gymnasium.
