Inferno Loses To Warriors In Tale Of 2 Halves

KontowskiMILWAUKEE -- Alverno College and Wisconsin Lutheran College were tied 31-31 at halftime, but the Inferno was outscored by 21 points in the second half for the 68-47 loss to the visiting Warriors.

The Inferno (5-13, 2-10 Northern Athletics Conference) lost its fifth-straight contest, while the Warriors (15-3, 12-0) won their ninth-straight.

Inferno Unable To Overcome Slow Start In Loss To Muskies

KontowskiPLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Alverno College scored just two points in the first 10 minutes of the game and wasn't able to overcome the slow start in a 66-55 loss to host Lakeland College, the fourth-straight loss for the Inferno.

The Muskies (11-6, 6-5 Northern Athletics Conference) opened up the game 7-0, and kept the Inferno (5-12, 2-9) scoreless until Kristen Speerschneider (New Franken, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) scored on a fast break layup to put the visitors on the scoreboard.

Kontowski Named Alverno Athlete Of The Week

KontowskiMILWAUKEE -- Basketball student-athlete Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) has been named Alverno Athlete of the Week for events that took place January 16-22.

The senior forward scored double-figures for the sixth-straight game and set a new career high with 23 points in a loss at MSOE on Saturday. In the game, she shot 6-of-12 from the field and was 10-of-15 from the free-throw line, and snagged a team-high seven rebounds for the Inferno.

Alverno Looks To Get Back On Winning Track In 3-Game Week

GalstadMILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's basketball team will look to snap its three-game losing streak with three games this week, including two home contests.

The Inferno open play on Tuesday at Lakeland College, and then host Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday night, followed by Benedictine University on Saturday night. All three games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Raiders Take Red Rivalry Cup From Inferno

KontowskiMILWAUKEE -- A 15-0 first-half run by the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders gave the host the lead for good as the Alverno College Inferno lost, 69-57, in the second-annual Red Rivalry Game between the two Northern Athletics Conference and crosstown rivals tonight in the Kern Center.

The Raiders (11-5, 7-2 NAC) take the travelling trophy from the Inferno (5-11, 2-8), who won the inaugural game last season in Reiman Gymnasium.
