Hot-Shooting Falcons Fly Past Inferno, 79-62

JensenMEQUON, Wis. -- The opening 10 minutes of the game was the difference in a 79-62 loss to host Concordia University Wisconsin, as Alverno College was officially eliminated from contention of making the 2012 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament tonight at Buuck Field House.

The Inferno was outscored 19-2 to begin the game, as an Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) finally put the visitors on the board with a jumper at the 11:07 mark. Alverno shot a dismal 0-for-11 before Jensen's basket ended the scoring drought.

Kontowski Named Alverno Athlete Of The Week

KontowskiMILWAUKEE -- Basketball student-athlete Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) has been named Alverno Athlete of the Week for events that took place January 23-29.

The senior forward exploded for 20 second-half points and set a new career high for the third time in four games with 24 points to lead all scorers at Lakeland on Tuesday. She shot 9-of-16 from the floor, also setting a new career high with the nine makes.

Inferno Sunk By Eagles, 52-49

BotevaMILWAUKEE -- The visiting Benedictine University Eagles made four free throws in the final 36 seconds and secured a 52-49 victory over the Alverno College Inferno tonight in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (5-14, 2-11 Northern Athletics Conference) had an opportunity to tie the game with 3.7 seconds remaining, as Alyssa Jensen (Cudahy, Wis.) was fouled by the Eagles' Tracey Walsh. Jensen (7 points, 5 rebounds) made the first of two to pull the Inferno within one, 50-49, but her second free-throw attempt rimmed out and the Eagles' Michelle Gaede secured the rebound and was fouled with 1.3 seconds to go.

Rematch With Falcons, Play 4Kay Game On Docket For Inferno This Week

Play 4Kay - Hannah GalstadMILWAUKEE -- Coming off a close three-point loss on Saturday, the Alverno College women's basketball team looks to snap its losing streak versus Concordia University Wisconsin and Rockford College in a pair of Northern Athletics Conference games this week.

The Inferno (5-14, 2-11 NAC) opens the week on Wednesday in a rematch with North Division foe Concordia Wisconsin up in Mequon. The Falcons (13-7, 12-2) took down the Inferno back on Dec. 6, 64-50, in Reiman Gymnasium led by CUW's Kendal Kerns' game-high 19 points and eight rebounds.

Inferno Loses To Warriors In Tale Of 2 Halves

KontowskiMILWAUKEE -- Alverno College and Wisconsin Lutheran College were tied 31-31 at halftime, but the Inferno was outscored by 21 points in the second half for the 68-47 loss to the visiting Warriors.

The Inferno (5-13, 2-10 Northern Athletics Conference) lost its fifth-straight contest, while the Warriors (15-3, 12-0) won their ninth-straight.
